The Rotosrock 2006 rock music event was recorded at restaurant 45 Special in Oulu on December 5th, 2006. Performing on stage were Lodger, Brüssel Kaupallinen, Moses Hazy and Phantom Wagon.
Research subject: long-term cooperation with restaurant 45 Special, the purpose of which is to develop a system for streaming gigs regularly. Utilizing a multichanneling in providing added value to bar and restaurant activities.
(10/30/06) Late Night with Youth Against Sudoku on October 30th, 2006 (30.10.2006)
Neo Arena broadcast the Late Night with Youth Against Sudoku talk show live on October 30th, 2006, from the concert hall of the Oulu University of Applied Sciences. Late Night with Youth Against Sudoku was a talk show hosted by Joni Pakanen, imitating the Conan O’Brien show and introducing the humorous Youth Against Sudoku campaign.
Research subject: the functionality of a talk show and transmitting a pop culture phenomenon via web and mobile TV.
(10/20/06) Spinefeast on October 20th and 21st (20.10.2006)
The Spinefeast 2006 festival was held at Nosturi in Helsinki on October 20th and 21st, 2006. Neo Arena carried out the live broadcasting and recording of the event for the programme body and video-on-demand service in cooperation with Spinefarm Records Oy. The event was a two-day rock concert where the record company’s new promising artists displayed their skills to an audience of some 700 people on the spot. In addition, the broadcast on Neo Arena was followed in different parts of the world, from about 3,000 unique IP addresses. The event reached its target group far and wide. According to log data, the broadcast was viewed in Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Australia, even though there had been no marketing of the broadcast. After the event, vivid discussion about the live broadcasting was aroused in Internet forums. In addition, there were enquiries about a later broadcast and requests for a re-run all through the autumn. A compilation video was produced of the event.
Research subject: interest in watching a Rock concert via web and mobile without marketing. It was also studied whether streaming to web decreases the amount of audience on the spot. The event was sold out.
(10/10/06) Call for Creative Futures conference on October 10th and 11th, 2006. (10.10.2006)
The Call for Creative Futures conference was held at Lasaretti in Oulu on October 10th and 11th, 2006. Neo Arena carried out the live broadcasting of the event to the web and mobile.
Research subject: the suitability of educational content for web and mobile distribution.
(09/07/06) Air Guitar World Championships on September 7th, 2006 (7.9.2006)
The virtual studio part from the high site camp of the Air Guitar World Championships held on September 7th, 2006 was broadcast live on the Neo Arena channel, the event site being the Oulu University of Applied Sciences. On the same night, the recording of the qualifiers was carried out at restaurant 45 Special, and the final held on September 8th, 2006, was broadcast live on the web and mobile. The final reached viewers all over the world, most of them being from Finland, Japan and the USA.
Research subject: Reaching a world-wide audience.
